Note: the move error for connectivity is not related to the original post or other responses.

The way Apple has implemented the AS spec, it must be connected to do the Move (to Trash which is a "delete" or another folder). This was completely an Apple choice.

There is not really a reason not to try to delete even when you have unreliable/unstable network connectivity. If it doesn't work, the Apple will pop up a message and not delete it. This doesn't hurt anything other than you will need to delete it again because it wasn't really deleted. You will also notice that Apple tries for a while, so you may not get the failure until later (minutes later).
